Admission Requirements
International Students :
- High School Diploma
- Bachelor of Science in Engineering or Natural Sciences or equivalent
- Proof of adequate knowledge of English - see table below
We need an officially authenticated / certified copy of the result (certified by a public lawyer or your University or the German Embassy) or the original sent by ETS.
The ETS department code for TOEFL is 0460. Inform WAREM by e-mail if ETS will send
your result.
- Educational and/or professional background in water related subjects - particularly in fluid mechanics
- Chinese applicants:
Chinese applicants have to submit an APS certificate issued by the
>Akademische Prüfstelle für chinesische Studienbewerber (APS)
which has recently been set up at the German embassy in Peking.
German Students:
- German High School Diploma
- Bachelor of Science in civil or environmental engineering from a German university, "Fachhochschule" or "Berufsakademie"
- Proof of adequate knowledge of English - see table below
- Educational and/or professional background in water-related subjects - particularly in fluid mechanics
English Proficiency Examination Minimum Requirements
No English test is required for candidates of these countries (Please klick link to see the referring list) who have received their university education in English (include confirmation of institution)

Application Process
To apply for the winter semester, please submit the following materials to us by February 15th:
- online application
through the University Application Portal
- letter of intent and a Curriculum Vitae (CV)
- officially authenticated copy of your school leaving certificate (high school certificate or equivalent)
- officially authenticated copy of your university transcript
- officially authenticated copy of your university diploma
- 2 letters of reference - forms available at our download area
- Results of your English proficiency examination - see table above

- a validated copy of your University entrance exam (for applicants from Iran and Turkey only)
Please note:
Scanned copies via e-mail are not sufficient. Please send your application by regular post!
Documents have to be sent with a certified translation into German or English!
Please DO NOT send originals if you need them in the future! We DO NOT send applications back!
Copies can be authenticated/verified/certified by your Universiy, a public notary or the German Embassy.
Application forms must be filled in online using the University Application Portal
. At the end of the application process, please print out a copy of the application form, sign it and sent it to WAREM by post..
Please send your application as early as possible to allow ample time for any corrections or re-submissions that may be necessary.
Late applications:
Late applications up to July 15th may be submitted by applicants who do NOT need a visa and will be considered in the case that all available places have not been filled. Earlier applications however, have higher chances of being considered for a scholarship.
For applicants living outside of Germany: Please do not wait until the 15th of July when sending your late application. In the past, even some applicants who were accepted to the program were not able to obtain the necessary travel documents, visa, etc. in time to join the WAREM program in September. In order to ensure that you will have sufficient time to arrange for your visa, it is highly recommended to submit your late application in mid April.
Costs of the WAREM Program
You will need a minimum of 650 EUR/month to cover the following:
- Rent: 250-300 EUR/month (on-campus housing)
- Health Insurance: 78 EUR/month
- Food: 200 EUR/month
- Entertainment & Leisure Activities: 90 EUR/month
- Start-Up Money: 300-400 EUR (for public transportation, etc)
- Tuition Fees: 500 EUR/semester + approx. 116 EUR/semester
- Note: From summersemester 2012 on the study fee of 500,- EUR per semester will not be charged any more! Only the tuition fees of about 116,- EUR per semester are still valid.
Please note these are approximated figures and may vary! For comparison: The current rate provided by a DAAD scholarship is around 720 EUR/month.
How do I apply for a scholarship?
WAREM recommends a limited number of full scholarships each year for outstanding candidates. In order to be recommended for a scholarship, you must have fulfilled all of the Application Requirements and have submitted IPSWAT cover sheet (Deckblatt) with the following by February 15th:
- Letter of individual motivation for the scholarship (please go to the scholarship homepages directly to find more information regarding the letter)
- 2 letters of recommendation (letters required from WAREM application can be used)
- curriculum vitae including your passport photo
- you must also indicate on the cover sheet if you have applied for an IPSWaT scholarship through another Master's Program
- a description of how you will participate in a bilateral cooperation between your home country and Germany
- results of your English Proficiency Examination (Note, without a sufficiant result of an english proficiency exam you wont be proposed for a scholarship!)
PLEASE NOTE : Applicants from certain countries (e.g. Ethiopia, Eritrea) do not need an English Proficiency Test for the WAREM admission but
but they will need it for the IPSWaT application! This is very improtant! Please take care about this in time! If you are not sure if you need an English proficiency test please contact us.
WAREM recommends candidates directly for
IPSWaT
scholarships. IPSWaT scholarships cover all expenses during your study including travelling to and from Germany, insurance, tuition, and housing. For more information regarding the scholarships, please visit the homepage. WAREM assumes no responsibility for changes made to the scholarship requirements and/or their admission procedures.
WAREM is part of a new scholarship programme established by DAAD -
German Academic Exchange Service. The programme is offered to
highly-qualified Graduates and Doctoral Students from Kazakhstan,
Mongolia, Iran, Jordan, Vietnam and Indonesia, who have graduated from
their studies in Engineering or Natural Sciences subjects.
