What is WAREM?
Water Resources Engineering and Management (WAREM) is a two-year Master of Science program beginning in the winter semester of each year. The program consists of three in-class semesters and a fourth semester designated for research and thesis work.
The curriculum focuses on what are considered to be the future main emphases of water engineering (as described in the 1996 UNESCO/IAHR panel report "Education of Hydraulic Engineers"), an area in which the University of Stuttgart ranks highly internationally.
Our Goal
Qualified, multidisciplinary engineers and scientists in the field of water resources engineering and management are in demand to meet the water needs of a growing world population within given environmental and social constraints. The bilingual Master of Science program WAREM is specially tailored to satisfy this demand by catering to both German and international students.
Sounds great, but am I qualified for WAREM?
The ideal candidate has educational and professional experience in either the water sector, hydraulics, or wastewater. Those with experience in the fields of planning, chemistry, biology and are interested in an international Master's Degree are invited to look into Universität Stuttgart's wide range of International Master's Programs (see the menu bar right).
The following sections give an overview of the most important times and events for the two years you are enrolled. The curriculum covers the following three specialization sections:
S1 - Groundwater Resources Management and Geohydrology
S2 - Hydraulic Engineering and River Basin Management
S3 - Sanitary Engineering and Water Quality Management
Individual lectures are grouped into learning modules having both mandatory and elective lectures, and students must choose a minimum of two of the three specialization sections. The full spectrum of courses are offered in English, although students may also choose from a wide variety of German courses as well. German students enrolled in WAREM must complete one semester abroad.
